CNN's head of newsgathering, Eason Jordan, issued a categorical denial
Tuesday.

"We understand there is a suggestion being circulated via e-mail and on Web
sites that recent videotape that aired on CNN of Palestinians supposedly
dancing in the streets of a West Bank town is identical to videotape from
1991," he said. "CNN refutes this entirely.

"In the midst of these dreadful events, it is highly regrettable to find
people using the tool of e-mail to irresponsibly spread false information to
further their own agendas."

The rumor originated on an alternative news site called CounterPunch.com.
The site retracted its story when the Brazilian teacher who claimed to have
the tape suddenly could not verify it.
