reply to beatles being hard rock

<<not
<<have any problem with comparing, Revolver, The White Album and Abbey
Road...(late 60's material) with Tommy. Many of the songs on those Beatle
albums were much more philosophical with a hard rock sound than Tommy. Come
Together..Revolution..Helter Skelter. Who's Next came out after The Beatles
broke up.

Now u have missed my point entirely. The white album hard rock? come on- ur
saying that seriously? yes- the beatles got all philosophical and deep and
did make waves with their lyrics (social commentary, drug imagery, etc) and
in that way were controversial. but their SOUND was never really hard (a few
songs does not make a band hard). rock and roll was ALL controversial in the
late 50s early 60s- especially in the U.S. due to the ultra-conservative
climate post- WW2. the who were hard rock from the beginning- especially
live. can't explain, my generation, the ox are all harder than ANYTHING the
beatles ever did- and the beatles certainly weren't hardening their sound
before this. just because they recorded a few softer sounding tunes to meet
public demand is no reason to criticize. by the way- the who never played a
song worse than michelle, my belle.
