Re: New Pete not re-Pete

When Pete's inspired, I don't think he feels under pressure. When he's
inspired, he's got way too many songs to use, and he doesn't give a damn
what anybody says about them. When it's right, it's right.

It's unlikely we'll see major changes from the tour. I suspect they've
settled on the various adjustments by this time--even though Zak as a
drummer is fairly new to the group.

Is it's the sound that makes the difference, though? What is it that gives
a song balls? You can break the sound up into elements and say it's this or
it's that--the complainers from last summer did that, but I'm not sure it's
valid. I suspect it's the attitude of the band that's expressed in the
music.

It was a fun experiment, but you're right that it's already been done. For
that reason, I don't think Pete or The Who would go down that road any real
distance. You might find some surprising interpretations of it that appear
somewhere, but they're not a band to copy trends.

The best thing is to have both of these--something that works on more than
one level. It has to have immediate impact to catch your attention, and
then depth to engage you after the new has worn off. Of course, that's The
Who's big thing.
