Yeah, the performances are all over the map both visually and
sonically.  Remember that when putting together a film you have to
first select from things that were recorded both in image and in
sound.  That severely restricts what you can use!  I always remember
thinking the Roadrunner sequence in Kids was horrible visually, but it
sounded so great that you could forgive the cheesy 70s video effects
and crappy cameras.  (At least they didn't split-edit every 5 frames
like the Vegas '99 footage!)

Are there better sounding performances from the Who's live career?
Yep, but most of that stuff doesn't have associated film or video
footage to go with it and even when it does exist, its not always
possible to obtain it within the budget for your film.
