I think Roger commented in one of the summer interviews.  He said it was the 
Blues that made The Who, because it taught them to improvise.  There are a 
couple of old descriptions of their music that mentions they catually played 
jazz, too.  Of course, I think Pete's latter-day style just reeks of it.
