Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V8 #9
Hello, I was reading what Kevin wrote:
Somehow rock has been tagged as a young man's game.
>But then tonight I caught the tail end of a VH1 show that said the
>Twentieth Century ended with the music scene pretty much in chaos.
I know it may not seem like it, given the doom of the upcoming Grammy's
(Nsynch, Eminem, Brittney Boobs, and other such worthless pieces of utter
distainable CRAP!), but I can't help but feel like the world is ready to let
go of this notion that only The Youth can create meaningful music.
Who is out there? Nobody! One or two hit wonders, as our as esteemed
colleague ML has noted.
Have some faith in the future Kevin. Every generation(teens)have to have
their wet dream heros & The Who were looked at as teen freaks in 65 with the
clothes they wore & the songs they sang, no one ever thought of them creating
something powerful or influential. History repeats itself & I think that
there are some bands that will hold up in this decade - whatever we call this
decade. I think bands like Radiohead, The Chili Peppers, Creed write some
good songs.
I get disturbed at people like Faith Hill & the Dixie Chicks & Jennifer
Lopez. The media creates/hypes people like them. They tell us Celine Dion is
a goddess & we should worship her. It's such a kiss ass game.
And whos ass is Rolling Stone kissing calling U2 band of year? What the hell
did they do this year? They put out an album that was "ok". But band of the
year? How are they going to hold up in their old age, I wonder.
My coffee is kicking in & I got hormone problems. Brittney Spears will get
hormone probs one day too Kevin, ok. Have faith.
