Who's on TV

Repost from another list. There was a heads up from TJ on this, but
I've missed it so far. Looks like it's going to run one more time this
week-end, Sunday overnight/Monday morning at 2:00 a.m. ET on The
Learning Channel. If you contact the channel, it certainly wouldn't
hurt to request a program dedicated to The Who exclusively.

>Kudos to the Learning Channel......

>Unlike the Grammy Awards whose Who tribute quickly flashed by under
the radar, The Learning Channel's (TLC) program, "Rock & Roll Moments"
broadcast Friday night succeeded by offering a lot previously uneathed
video material including some rare Who footage. The program was
devoted to mostly rare clips/performances of Hendrix, CSNY, Janis &
Bowie to name a few -- my only complaint is that at only an hour, it
was waaaaayyyyy too short.

>The Who were featured first with some live footage of "Sparks" from
the 6/7/70 Metropolitan Opera House (NY) and an unbeknownst color Pete
interview clip circa '69-'70. The majority of the Who segment was
devoted to them performing MG taken from -- I believe -- Peoria, IL
3/10/68, part of Tony Palmer's BBC "Omnibus" documentary.

>If we ever hope to see any further archival Who footage, positive
feedback needs to be given to those willing enough to pursue and
present material like this (we all know the Who or it's management
doesn't see this need). TLC did their job -- and any persuasion needed
to obtain the rights from the Who's "powers-that-be" was successful
here and should be appreciated.

>If you enjoyed the show -- and have the time -- you may want to drop
TLC a line to thank them for the program. You never know, it may
encourage them to do something more comprehensive on Rock -- and the
Who -- down the line. Sadly, there's a bucketload of classic
never-seen professionally filmed Who concert performances out there
depreciating in storage as you read this.....
