Man, I defend roger daltrey as not the worthless piece of crap u think he is,
and you now tear into anything i put up here. in fact, if you read my entire
post reviewing Tommy the movie, you would have noticed that it was anything
but "predictable" and that of a "simpleton." i was quite logical in stating
that when one undertakes the making of a movie, even a fantasy musical like
tommy, some attempt must be made to explain things, even if the explanation
is completely fantastic. to simply throw shit up on the screen that is wierd
for the sake of being wierd and call it art is a cop out. Tommy turns out
NOT to be the true messiah as all his followers turn on him and kill his
parents (in the movie- and i don't buy this, either, as pete's true intent)
after they succumb to blatant commercialism, so what is this magical force
that leads him to the junkyard and magically turns on a scrapped pinball
machine? i'd completely buy this interpretation if any attempt was made to
show that Tommy was somehow a prophet sent by some supreme being to rescue
mankind and bring salvation. in the original album- the reference is made to
a "tall stranger... dressed in a silver sparked glittering gown, whose golden
beard flows nearly down to the ground." this implies a supreme being having
a purpose for tommy- who ultimately fails to deliver. this line was removed
by Ken Russell in amazing journey. if u also read the review- i raved about
some of most bizarre scenes- such as acid queen, eyesight t/th blind, and
pinball wiz. hey, and maybe you can answer this: why was sally simson's
husband from CA a musician dressed like frankenstein's monster? what did
that symbolize? never got that, either. i'm all for creativity and
strangeness- but not simply for the sake of being strange. I find that
insulting to an audience's intelligence. and let's be honest- i actually
loved the movie- but find the stage version, in which pete had much more
input, makes more sense. and pete is your idol and hero, right?
