Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V7 #158



Regarding the question of Zak and Simon Phillips, let me just add my two
cents. As an educated drummer (I now that this is an oxymoron-and just plain
impossible) I can tell you that what Simon Phillips does on the drums is
very much like very much like Moon did. Simon is a master of technique and
his double bass drum work is impressive. The Man has chops! Daltrey himself
said that when Simon Phillips is on the drums it is like having all the
power and drive of Moon but with the consistency of good meter etc,.
However, Zak is no slouch himself. The man can move the band just like a
younger Moon could. Both bring different elements to the band, and I admire
them both. However, I think Zak is better suited for them now and Simon was
the logical choice during the Who's tour in 89.
