Scene 23
Ray regains consciousness to the sound of Purcell which mutates into
screams. Rayboy is gone. Ray calls Sally and tells her that Mary is alive.
Sally replies that she now intends to bake a loaf of bread and wishes him a
happy New Year. Music: a new Pete version of "Behind Blue Eyes."

Scene 24
Ray walks along the road and again meets up with The Caretaker at a windmill
farm. Rayboy meanwhile returns to his 1950's home where he draws a picture
of Ray "all mad and lost." Music: more of a new Pete version of "Behind
Blue Eyes." Mary and The Hacker set out of the building into the city
toward the Lifehouse accompanied by dimly seen "surfers" who ride his
transmissions. Music: an instrumental piece similar to "Meher Baba M4" which
continues through the next scene.

Scene 25
Ray and The Caretaker stop at a travelers' camp at a slag heap outside the
city. No one has seen Mary. Ray recalls how the last time he was there he
saw a huge block of concrete sticking out of the slag heap "like some record
sleeve." The voice of The Hacker comes out of radios in the travelers'
camp. Ray races The Caretaker to the top of a slagheap and sees the city
beyond. They set off into the city. Music: a new Pete version of "Pure and
Easy."

Scene 26
They go into a cinema and "into the mind" of Rayboy. Rayboy talks about how
inept old science-fiction movies were with "silver suits and green men in
the stars." But when Ray looks at the screen, the film of the future only
shows him the world of today.

Scene 27
The Hacker shoplifts food in a Supermart as he explains to Mary how
everyone's music will come together at The Lifehouse. Music: Pete's vocal
demo of "Who Are You" playing as if on the store's muzak which then becomes
a piece by Scarlatti.

Scene 28
Ray is watching Scene 27 above on the cinema screen after which he sets off
to find Mary. Outside is a notice that the cinema will shortly be torn down
for an entertainment that "guarantees spiritual growth as well as spiritual
uplift in a brand new leisure option." He asks The Caretaker to say "take
care" before he leaves but The Caretaker is too scared. Music: a new Pete
version of "Behind Blue Eyes" which continues through the next two scenes.

Scene 29
Ray calls Sally to say he saw Mary. She tells him that Mary left because of
him, she should have left as well and hangs up.

Scene 30
Ray walks through the streets drinking. He smashes the window of an
electrical goods store and turns all the televisions up full blast. The
Hacker breaks through the sound calling all to The Lifehouse.

Scene 31
Mary and The Hacker arrive at The Lifehouse building. It is full of people
who have sent their music to The Hacker. He intends to feed it all into a
computer and hear what happens.

Scene 32
Ray sits on a looted television set talking to the sky as Rayboy, back in
the 1950's, draws him. Ray starts to sing "Too Much Of Anything" which
crossfades into Pete's demo.

Scene 33
Ray hears the music from The Lifehouse and hurries towards it as Rayboy
draws The Lifehouse using every crayon in the box to represent all the
colors of the music. Rayboy realizes that he cannot draw the beauty he has
heard and scribbles the picture out with grey crayon.

Scene 34
Mary and The Hacker stand in the midst of the noise of the combined music in
The Lifehouse. The Hacker says "I think anyone who wanted to could blow
this place away." He then quietly says "boom" and The Lifehouse blows
sky-high leaving only the scream of sirens and alarms.

Scene 35
Ray walks into the ruins of his childhood home, sits and screams for Mary.
Rayboy draws a picture of it calling it "a picture of a nightmare.this is
the man who is sad and afraid and alone sitting in front of a television on
fire..this is the sad man screaming.screaming forever.this is a warning.this
is the future."

Scene 36
Ray tries to call home but the number has been disconnected. He throws the
mobile phone into the fire and sobs as Rayboy sings "One Note." Music:
orchestral version of "Baba O'Riley" under end credits.
