========
In America, record companies have to pay out royalties "per song", so the
more songs there are on a CD, the more royalties have to be paid out to the
songwriters. That means the more songs there are on a disc, the less profit
there is for the band (unless the band wrote the songs themselves). In
Europe, royalties are paid out "per album" so the same royalty rate is paid
no matter how many songs there are on a disc. Apparently, Pete Townshend
decided to have "Man with the Money" and "Spoonful" deleted from the
American disc, because if they were on the American disc the Who would make
less money on each American CD sold. Thanks, Pete!
