That's my take on it, too.  He had everything, but it was never what he 
needed.  People loved him, tried to help him.  He distrusted all that love 
and respect because inwardly he didn't believe he deserved it.  He played 
with the remarkable Who, but that was nothing.  He wanted the Beach Boys 
instead.
