In the U.K. it was Bob Dylan's "Nashville Skyline."  In the U.S. #1 was the
Original Cast album of "Hair".  I don't know what was #2 or #3 at the time.

In the U.K. it was David Bowie's "Pinups" which oddly had two Who covers on it. 
In the U.S. it was Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
