Interesting theory.  Just think of the chorus

    "say goodbye to the brilliant blues"

Is Pete talking about the Who's "maximum rhythm and blues" as the
"brilliant blues"?  And its just something you're going to have to say
goodbye to because he's moved on in his life.  If true, it would be
good to point this out to those who've whined about Pete not playing
electric during the '96 Quad Show and bitching that they don't turn
the amps up anymore. :-)
