AOLiveMC3:  Welcome to AOL Live.

John Entwistle:  Hello, room!

AOLiveMC3: John, please tell us about you new projects.

John Entwistle: The new project is a live album that was recorded last=20
summer in the Left for Dead Tour. We recorded 42 shows, and picked 12=20
performances that best showed the band live. The release date is July
13th.=20
It's called "Left for Live."

Question: When are you gonna tour in NY?

John Entwistle: We'll be heading back to NY on the 10th of July at the=20
Joyous Lake in Woodstock. We are in the process of looking at more NY
dates=20
at the moment.

Question: What=92s your favorite song to play?

John Entwistle: =93Won't Get Fooled Again,=94 because it's in the key of A.

Question: Is The Who ever going to tour again?

John Entwistle: Is there a God?

Question: In the DVD of Roger Daltrey and yourself performing at
Carnegie=20
Hall, what bass were you using?

John Entwistle: A Modulus Graphite Buzzard which I designed, as well as
an=20
acoustic Ovation bass guitar.

Question: I keep hearing rumors of you writing a book on The Who and life
o=
n=20
the road. Is this true?

John Entwistle: Yes, it's true, but since life on the road is still=20
continuing, so is the writing of the book, which has now turned into an=20
encyclopedia set.

Question: What made you switch from Alembic basses? What is so special
abou=
t=20
your current equipment?

John Entwistle: I became dissatisfied with the necks on the basses. It
is=20
entirely designed by me. The bass is solid graphite so it doesn't move or=20
change, it's very consistent.

Question: Hey, John, where did you first start playing the bass? How old=20
were you?

[Another band member]: He was [in] Chiswick, London.

John Entwistle: I was in Chiswick, London, and I was 14 years old.

Question: What bands/musicians do you truly admire/enjoy today?

John Entwistle: All the dead ones.

Question: Are you coming through Florida?

John Entwistle: Probably not on this leg. However, we always liked
playing=20
Florida, and as soon as we get the chance to get back there we will,=20
hopefully in the winter.

Question: What up-and-coming bass players do you like and think will be=20
influential to young musicians?

John Entwistle: Les Claypool and Flea, because their different, not=20
following the same road as everyone else; they are daring to be different.

Question: Who are the other musicians touring with you?

John Entwistle: There is Steve Luongo on drums. There is Godfrey Townsend
o=
n=20
guitar and vocals, and Gordon Cotten on keyboards. It's the same band
that=20
has toured since 1996, with the addition of Gordon last year in 1998.

Question: John, are your early solo albums available on CD? I'm
particularl=
y=20

Bu=

I think =93Whistle Rhymes=94 is out at this time.

Question: Mr. Entwistle, I'm 13 years old, and I just bought a bass
guitar=20
and took lessons for it, [with] The Who as my inspiration. Any ideas on
how=20
or where to learn more?

John Entwistle: Playing by ear, playing along with records, starting
with=20
simple ones, of course. Buy a bass tutor to find out where the notes are
on=20
the neck.

Question: What song of your composition is your favorite to play?

John Entwistle: =93Boris the Spider,=94 because we've changed the middle.

Variations on my patented techniques.

Question: What kind of bass equipment are you using in live performance?

John Entwistle: Status Graphite Buzzard of my own design along with
Trace=20
Elliot power amps, a PSA1 Sans Amp, XPS1000 Yamaha and TC Graphic ASS
speake=
r=20
cabinets made by Ashdowne. I also use a Buzzard 2 that I also designed
for=20
Status. It's similar to the Buzzard but it has a wooden body. Still using
th=
e=20
graphite neck.

AOLiveMC3: We have time for one more question: Would you consider
forming=20
an all-star band like Ringo Starr did? If so, who would you choose?
