Queen(only other band to have the same range of music as the who,and also an 
amazing vocalist)

Rolling Stones(a lot of rubbish from late 70s to late 80s but classic stuff 
in the late 60s and an amazing comeback with Voodoo Lounge in the 90's - 
hopefully the who's comeback album will be as powerful)

Kinks (tremendous songwriters)

The Jam,..loads more stuff..

of the new breed:
Supergrass,Blur - 2 very innovative bands
