Pete did answer some of your questions in a recent interview that he did
here on NY radio with Dan Near.

Pete stated that he had been working for some time to get the movie made and
finally hooked up with Brad Bird (not sure of name).  Pete's vision was
always an animated musical but once Bird came onto the scene he convinced
Pete that making a Disney-esqe (sp) movie would be box office suicide.  The
critics would do nothing but compare & tote how Disney could have done it
better.

Pete admitted that even though he was very impressed with Bird's vision it
took all his strength to give up control of the project.  He said he was
very happy with the outcome & that it was a good life lesson.
