Sods & Odds

My fellow igtcer's:

At any rate, like a teenager, the new O&S cd has blemishes. And I don't stop
loving my teenage son because his face is breaking out . . . . in a word (or
two), I love this new cd! Yes, I admit it! To me, it was absolute pure joy
to put on a new Who cd and have it sound so NEW! I have over 1,800 Who
records and to hear something *differently* for the first time is a gas! I
for one am goddamn grateful that The Who's catalog is being remastered at
all! I appreciate that the band and the people who work directly with them
at least care enough to see that this stuff is being put out and that
rarities are being dusted off. Nitpicking aside, I am thrilled with the new
versions, flaws and all. And I think "We Close Tonight" is a hell of a good
song! Where would that have fit in on the original Quadrophenia song
line-up? Actually, it would have sounded good in the Quad movie soundtrack .
. .

I work part-time at a music store and I worked the closing shift tonight. I
was playing the new O&S very loudly over the PA system and several customers
asked me what Who record I was playing and I told them the newly remastered
Odds & Sods and showed them the track listing - - I sold three copies
tonight to people who might not have even known that this existed!

I know Who fans are very very discerning when it comes to remastering the
Who's catalog and I certainly don't want their legacy tarnished or
besmirched in any way. Certainly there could have been better quality
control during this whole process but the point of the matter is that we are
being given these songs and I will joyfully dance around the room every time
I play them.
