I Need You

I never really thought about it until actually concentrating on the lyrics,
but does anyone else feel that "I Need You" is Pete trying to "get closer"
to the Beatles, i.e., to put to rest any 'rivalry' he may have helped foster
in the press? Brian Cady and others have noted how "I Need You" was recorded
just after the release of "Revolver", with its use of sitar. About the
possible "Yellow Submarine" reference: when was the song/album released? (My
Beatles chronology is a bit lacking in specifics...).

Knowing
Is what people tell you:
That you're thinking wrong.
Embrace you,
But they really mean, "So long."
You talk to them,
They laugh aloud;
Yet they run to you in any crowd?
Please talk to me again,
I need you.

We're dancing,
We will come and dance near you,
We want to learn,
Let us come and sitar with you.
Distort my ears
When the music's loud,
Yet you raise your hatch in the yellow crowd.
Please talk to me again,
I need you.
