Pete Townshends writings may have been written from a male perspective 
but I do not believe that they are fully targated at males. When I first 
got into The Who it was because I totally related to characters like 
Tommy and Jimmy. I do also relate to characters like Sally Simpson but I 
also think that any huge Who fane male or female can relate to wanting 
to be close to the one thing that they love.
