I was surprised to read this, since Pete does play as fast as he possibly
can...but then I realized I'm thinking of his strumming, which may not be
what you mean.  He said on a radio interview that his technique is to play
so quickly and lightly the the pick literally floats above the strings,
unrestrained by his fingers.
