Pretentious Rock Bands

Let's see here,

"quantitative aesthetic theory" "European tonality" "empirical analysis"
"Sartwell's Laws" and my favorite "the quality of a rock band is inversely
proportional to its pretentiousness with pretentiousness expressed as a ratio
of artistic ambition to artistic accomplishment."

Just think somebody is paying this guy a salary and someday he may be
teaching your kids.

He states opinions and calls them "laws". He takes a basic premise based in
fact, that rock and roll has black american roots and then turns it
completely sideways.

Based on his laws there is no room for imagination. Everything may as well
be a Chuck Berry riff or else you are becoming pretentious.

I'm not writing this to knock his icon band the Stones but what would he call
that stuff they were doing in their disco days? And how about their
immediate rip off of Sgt. Pepper with that thing with the blue cover and
their cute little costumes.

Thank god for imagination. Sgt. Pepper, the White Album, Days of Future
Past, Dark Side of the Moon, Quadrophenia, Tommy, Ogdens Nut Gone Flake,
Axis Bold As Love, Sell Out, the list is endless an I apologize for
leaving out anyone's favorite.

But the only thing that sounds pretentious to me is the good professor.
