Re: Love songs by the Who

All the love songs noted already are great songs, but "Love Reign O'er Me"
is the most passionate. I can still see Pete, at last year's show,
caressing and thrusting his guitar during the solo near the end of the
song. Water has always symbolized our sexuality and Townshend, the poet,
playfully uses phases like, "the beach is being kissed by the sea", "sweat
of young lovers", "Oh God I need a drink of cool cool rain". The way he
plays on the words reign and rain is so clever. There are times we want
love's "rain" to drown us and at the same time we want love to "reign" over
us. The music only supports the power of the words with its up and down
beat like the crashing tide of the ocean. It all about the love's agony,
love's ecstasy, and love's power. In my opinion, the best love song ever
written.
