Re: a feather in Kenny Jones' hat

I know this isn't a popular position, but I do like Kenny. When he
joined the band, my other Who cronies and I went out and bought some
Small Faces stuff. In particular, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake album, which
we all liked. I do feel that Kenny's work as a drummer was never
really brought out much on the two albums done through Warner Bros.
But then again, one could argue that the entire band was hardly
showcased to their full potential on Face Dances, and while It's Hard
was certainly a better showcase, many argue that it too is pedantic in
nature. Still, I like KJ and I never once tried to do a comparison
between Kenny and Keith -- what's the point? Keith is Keith and Kenny
is Kenny. Noone else could play like Keith, and if the band had
attempted to bring in a "Keith clone", the fans would have been even
more disappointed. Kenny can do quite an amazing job of laying down
the beat and pushing the band through the song on time and on schedule
- -- just listen to the boots from the MSG concert in '79 if you want to
see what I mean. So what if Kenny wasn't Keith; did anyone ever doubt
that Keith was one-of-a-kind?
