Quad the movie & tour promotion

Personally, I like the fact that it's grainy...it gives it a realism and
helps it stand apart from the slick, profesional (and therefore
contrived) look that most movies have.
While we're on the subject, I was very impressed by the direction. For
instance, the scene where the camera goes into the party room, scans the
people, and then comes back to Jimmy...brilliant! It made me feel as
much like I was there as any movie could.
On the other hand, I've never been happy with the warping of the
storyline. Yes, I realize that the story on the album (unlike TOMMY) was
for the most part introspective. It would be difficult to get that
across, visually.
But never have I gotten any hint that Jimmy has four personalities from
the movie (except his Dad's line: "Bloody split personality!"). He's
chaotic, yes, but so are most teens...plus, doing that much speed would
turn twist anyone.
And of course...the end of the film is totally unlike the album. The
movie gives us a "happy ending:" Jimmy throws Mod out the window (off
the cliff) and moves on with his life. The album leaves him pondering
his recent past...with a new realization, but no hint to what direction
it might take him...or even if he can escape from it all.
I think Townshend the writer is big on spiritual/intellectual
self-realization...TOMMY ends that way, and many of his songs. I suppose
that's not definite enough for the film industry.

Vac:

If so, the Fall tour should have shown them differently. As of yet, I've
heard no hint of the nearby Raleigh & Charlotte shows here, and tickets
have been on sale for some time.
They're not sold out yet...I wonder why...
