Re: The Ox

Interesting idea to entertain.......

I think a major reason for JAE being shafted was the commercial popularity of
say, the Beatles or the Stones. Both groups were like chameleons, doing
whatever was around. Great formula, don't get me wrong.. the Beatles are my
favorite group, along with the Who and Chicago.

It's just that since the Who weren't doing so-called _love_ songs, they were
largely an oversight. "My Generation" was a far cry from "Here, There, and
Everywhere", for instance, and the public was demanding the latter.

Another reason may have been JAE's relative calm onstage. Like he said in
Live At Leeds linear notes, he would be polishing his guitar instead of
smashing it. No doubt some people said "look at the boring bass player, his
guitar is still in one piece", and overlooking the bassline, which, along
with Keith, was the foundation of the music, not just in the literal "rhythm
section" sense, but also a spectacle in the sense that Jimi Hendrix or
Townshend's guitar playing was. IMHO, of course.

I wasn't alive during the 60's (or the 70's, for that matter) but what I've
read and what I've heard leads me to my conclusions. I could be tottally off,
but.... just a thought.
