THE WHO IN FEBRUARY



Here's what The Who were up to in past Februarys:

5 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

The Cheiftains, an Irish folk group, release a version of "Behind Blue
Eyes" with Roger on vocals

20 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

Pete begins working on the "Rough Mix" LP with Ronnie Lane 

25 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

Now that The Who are on haitus, Pete leaves for India on a pilgrimage to
the tomb of Meher Baba.  While there he performs, amongst others, "Time
Is Passing."

"I Can’t Explain" backed with "Baba O’Riley" is released in Sweden

30 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

On the 1st, The Who appear on "Scene," a British Granada television
programme. Also on the show is politician Quintin Hogg who had
represented Shel Talmy in the previous year's lawsuit

On the 2nd, Swedish Television airs part one of a Popside special showing
The Who recording "Bucket T"
On the 5th, "Bucket T" backed with "So Sad About Us" is released in
Sweden and immediately goes to #1 on the strength of the "Popside"
programme.  It becomes The Who’s biggest hit in that country

During the early part of the month, The Who play dates around Britain at
gigs supplied for them by Brian Epstein’s NEMS Enterprises

An issue of "Disc" magazine hits the stands in which Pete describes his
new rock opera.  It will consist of 25 songs over 2 discs concerning "a
man whose wife dies and he leaves home and travels and becomes involved
in wars, revolutions and gets killed."  It eventually becomes "Rael"

On the 23rd, The Who begin their Italian tour in Turin, followed by
Bologna (24th), Mailand (25th) and Rome (26th)

35 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

Sometime around this time, Roger invites John to join his group The
Detours
