Re: Review of Meadows Music Theater (Hartford)

I read John L's posting on the Hartford, CT pre-show gathering
and was going to attempt to be social and meet with fellow Who
fans at the Jai Lai parking lot. Unfortunately, I got there late
since I was traveling from Middletown, NJ. Coincidentally, however,
he was sitting next to me in row 5. The seats were great - centered
between Roger and Pete. John L. brought a camera and got a couple
great pictures (John - I need to get the negatives of those pictures
for my WHO webpage).
Ok, the show review. It was a standard Quad show (this was my 9th
Quad show including the MSG shows) for the current leg of the tour
with Pete playing electric approximately 50% of the show. Pete looked
energetic and did a good amount of windmills. Although Roger did his
usual fantastic job - I think that last night he would have preferred
to have been fishing at his trout farm. His monitor (I believe it
functions as a monitor) which attaches to his belt and feeds into his
earplug was apparently not working for most of the show. He was visibly
upset and at one point (I think it was at the end of Sea and Sand before
Pete does his solo of Drowned) he smashed the monitor on the stage,
ripped off his headset/earplug, and left the stage. In addition to this,
Roger had a cold which caused him to lose his voice toward the end of
the
show. Pete "consulted" with him a couple of times on stage when the
spotlight was on other people.
When it came time for the first encore WGFA, Pete walked on with only
John
and said Roger had lost his voice but had given it his all. Pete started
WGFA solo and then, to the delight of the crowd, Roger walked on stage
halfway through the song. He finished the song and the night strong. In
response to Pete's praise in front of the crowd for coming back out,
Roger
relpied something to the effect "I have a cold, I feel alright now, but
who
knows how the f*ck I'll sound tomorrow night". Well, I'll be there
tomorrow
night at the PNC Arts Center in NJ and if Roger doesn't sing and just
plays
the harmonica all night long, it will still be the best show in town!!
