Sparks v. Sparks

NO WAY! NO WAY! NO WAY! No way is this version of Sparks edited in
to My Generation. For starters, the MG Sparks and the Tommy Sparks
DO NOT sound the same (although they similar). Secondly, the lead in
to the MG version is so smooth, there is no way it could have been
edited in. If you listen to the rest of the original LAL, all the
edits are really harsh and "amateurish" (e.g. just before substitute, just before
Keith(?) says "Put that cigarette out", and the cut just before Pete
says "Magic Bus" - these are not sophisticated editing techniques.
The most sophisticated the editing gets on the original LAL is the
backwards bit on Magic Bus).

Sparks is just one of those
tunes that is incredibly easy to slip into (I use it as a way of
warming up) as there are no complex chord changes or solos to worry
about. It also must have been the biggest rush on earth for Pete and
Keith when they were playing it and they were "in the groove",
and let's face it, they were both always on the look out for
another rush. Anyway, that's what I reckon, and I also think that if
the Sparks had been edited in to My Generation originally, they would
have restored the original tapes for the re-release.

Perhaps we'll never know.
