WHOot about Phoenix

What a great concert! First of all, who opened for the Who in Phoenix?
I'm not sure who it was, but I didn't care for them.

Two issues:
	1) Gary Glitter - I went in with every intention of hating GG. However, I
genuinely got a kick out of his enthusiasm and acting the part. That was
the surprise of the night.

	2) Zak, Zak, Zak - That guy's style is perfect for the Who. I enjoyed his
playing immensely. Hope they record something new with Zak. (just
dreaming)

Pete seemed pretty enthusiastic. I saw several genuine smiles and plenty
of interaction with Roger. Roger was a little hoarse, but I didn't think
it took much from the performance. Billy Idol was a showman on stage. I
enjoyed his participation also. In fact I also was surprised how well
produced the multimedia aspect of the show was carried off. One of my
friends, who knows very little about Quadrophenia, was EXTREMELY impressed
with the Quad portion of the show. So was I.

The encore was great, but a little short. They performed an acoustic WGFA,
followed by BBE with the whole band. They closed with WAY with Roger
starting on acoustic guitar. Hey, Roger was pretty good on that thing.
Also, once the acoustic portion of WAY had ended, Pete's synth track came
in on Who Are You. It came off pretty cool.

The encore with Pete's guitar prowess in the foreground makes you wish he
would (could?) play more lead guitar overall. (Actually, from where I was
sitting, you could hear Pete's strumming on acoustic during Quad pretty
well in the mix.) Anyway, Pete still has it, he's brilliant.

For you big John fans, (who isn't)...he had only one solo, during 5:15. He
impressed all and got a thundering ovation. I would like to have seen John
featured more too.

Overall...simply the best concert I've ever seen. The best $70.00 I ever
spent. (Not including the cool $25.00 Quad hat I bought.) I had a great
time. I enjoyed this concert much more than the '89 Tommy tour.

Have Fun,
