I'm gonna have to disagree here, Dr. Who was at it's inception a kiddies
show, and never really went beyond that. The reason it lasted as long as
it did was because it was so cheap, and they couldn't have found much for
cheaper (since Gerry Anderson was already working at ITV). The popularity
on this side of the Atlantic I might guess is because it was aired on PBS
and was British and had an obviously low budget, therefore, viewers assume
the stories must be really good. For british SF I generally only ever
watched Blakes 7 (light years beyond Dr. Who story wise) most stuff by
Gerry Anderson (including Space: 1999 since I was about 4 when it came out,
so I thought it was cool (I even had the colouring books & action
figures!)) and more recently, Red Dwarf (I always thought our TV needed
some SF humour sorta like this. Maybe Spaceballs: The Series) and of
course the Hitchhikers GTTG Trilogy mini series.

What's this got to do with the Who??? "Sweeeeeeet fuck all!!!" - R. Daltrey
