Actually, AOL has come a long way in the last 2-3 years. I remember way back
when logging on, never knowing what part of the system is working or not... 

However, in this case, it's not AOL. I ran some tests between the other
services I subscribe to and my gut feeling is that some Internet gateway
server was <Riker> up, causing the problem. Today, for example, the mail
seems to work fine...
