Pete's SG

Townshend played '68 Gibson SG Specials in the late 60's/early 70's. 
Gibson stopped producing them in '69. I remember reading somewhere that 
Townshend even had Gibson make some for him in '69, but he refused to 
accept them because they'd changed the pick-up position.

Also, the Special does have binding on the neck.

What's really even most significant about his choosing a Special over 
over models of SG's or Gibsons is with the pick-ups. The Special has only 
two single-pole P-90's, not Humbuckers. That's what provides the sustain 
and feedback so typical of Tommy-era Pete.
