I can think of about 8 feet of reason why men might be threatened by 
Lisztomania...

Seriously, I would reckon it's much the same reason Rog resents Pete now,
because they would lose their main outlet without their singer.  Perhaps
he thought they thought he might go the way of Elvis & concentrate on his
movie career.  I always thought Roger would make a good Caliban in The
Tempest (especially having seen the Superman season finale) which could
have launched a somewhat more prestigous acting career than he tended
towards.
