Let's see - King Oliver was in bands as early as 1908, many major early
jazzers were playing by mid-teens (Kid Ory, Jelly Roll Morton, Bunk Johnson).
Satch was playing with Ory as early as '19.Original Dixieland Jass Band
formed in '16 & recorded in '17.
   Bessie's blues (AKA "Classic Blues") were as steeped as much in vaudeville
as in blues. Most of her backing musicians were jazzers.   Best, GaryM
