NY vs. LA

Boy, that's the work of idle minds! I lived in LA for a year and loved
the wide variety of bands that came through. And I'd have a verrrrry
tough time with the anal gouging required to pay for Broadway shows, that
I detest anyways. But so frickin' what? Other people love NY for all it
offers, etc. Even if Lee Ving wrote: "New York's O.K. if you like
saxophones", it is the center of commerce, has tons of music, and
literally every band at least goes there (re: Who/Quad/Pete Townshend's
Quadrophenia). I quite like it (yes, I've been there!), for completely
different reasons than LA. But while in LA in 1979-80 I got so see
lots of great bands, including Iggy Pop, Cramps, Buzzcocks, Sham 69, the
Germs (twice), Black Flag (with Keith Morris, who I considered the only
true singer for them), Agent Orange (Keep 'em separated was patterned
after Agent Orange's Bloodstains single), X (original lineup), the
Alleycast, PIL (at the famous Olympic Arena show), and tons of other
stuff.
BUT!
If I lived in LA, I'd have to be clocking in about $200K/year to live in a
style which would allow me to enjoy the place. Plus a helicopter to get
around, and a beachfront property in Malibu. Otherwise it'd be pretty
miserable. Ask the millions of those f*$kers who have emigrated up
here...

I didn't like the purely disco stuff Abba did, like dancing queen. The
earlier stuff suited me better, but literally everything considered a hit
had some merit. They certainly had their lions' share of definitively
goofy songs, which must be prerequisite for Europop bands... Still, Lord
of this World by Sabbath will win out my attention any day...

Unca Paul, can you please solve this multiple postings thing on the
digest? It's making it unreadable. I've finally figured out that only the
first few postings are new....

A Who related programming note: Prince's Trust Concert is at 8 P.M.
Pacific Time, Sunday, July 14, on HBO. For the West Coasters in the
audience.
It's gonna be 100 degrees today, and not a cloud in the sky. Certainly no
hurricanes.
