*2/12/1996*
Last night (Feb. 10) there was a benefit in Los Angeles for the National
Academy of Arts and Sciences "Grammy in the Schools Fund." (The money
raised goes to buy musical instruments for the LA school system.) Anyway,
the benefit was "The Songs of Pete Townshend." Pete's songs were covered
by local LA bands and by bigger groups like the Muffs and the Plimsouls.
This concert was recorded and will be available for sale, however, I don't
know how you can order it. I attended the concert and I thought you might
be interested in the line-up.

Cosmo Topper - Pure and Easy

Baby Lemonade - Goin' Fishin'

Permanent Green Light - Rael and Sparks

The Delphines - I Can't Explain and Shakin' All Over (Not a Pete song,
but she said that if it wasn't for Pete she never would have heard it...)

Chip and Tony Kinman - Love Ain't for Keeping and Much Too Much

John Easdale - unknown* and Misunderstood

The Jigsaw Seen - Tatoo and Pictures of Lily

Ann Magnuson - The Acid Queen (The was a performance art interpretation
involving a large bucket of blood and a cartoon that looked like Josie and
the Pussycats - very strange - IMHO.)

The Plimsouls - Circles, The Ox and Run, Run, Run (Again, only my
opinion, but these guys were *good*.)

Love Jones - I'm the One and Behind Blue Eyes

7 Deadly 5 - unknown* and So Sad About Us

The Muffs - ?? (too loud and noisy to make out a melody or lyrics) and
Coke

Ye Olde English - I'm Free and Pinball Wizard
(This was very interesting: I'm Free was a ska song and Pinball Wizard was
played as a Madness type tune...)

White Flag and the Muffs - ?? (see The Muffs above), (In the City ?- a Jam
song) and Tommy Can You Hear Me. They may have finished with My
Generation...it was hard to tell.

* Can you help me name these songs? The John Easdale lyrics were "All I
can do is love you." Familiar, but I can't think of it. The 7 deadly 5
song was about a girl who sings, her teacher ignores her, she becomes
famous and ignores him.

In between bands, the promoter showed rare Who clips unavailable on any
released videos. The best one appeared to be a Canadian show called Take
Thirty in London. It had extended live footage and interviews with the
band.
