Pete`s hearing

I found WFang`s post on the above subject very informative. Does he or do
others know, first, if Pete ever wore hearing plugs at any time during his
touring career?; second, to what extent have Rog and JAE had hearing loss or
tinnitus? Also, I am interested by the time frames indicated by WFang - I
had always assumed Pete had lightened his studio guitar sound (at least)
from the mid-70`s on due to hearing concerns, but perhaps the decision was
purely artistic. Certainly, no Who song after WN has the guitar crunch of,
say, WGFA, or Pinball Wizard, which IMHO is unfortunate. Eg., someone on the
list said recently that Pete played very well on In A Hand Or A Face and
that it`s a great song - absolutely true, but the guitar tracks are muffled,
and to this day I can`t figure out why the song was played (or produced)
that way. Ditto Who Are You, Another Tricky Day, and many other post-Quad
songs. In fact, Quad itself suffers from this problem, with the possible
exception of The Real Me.
