I would actually think he'd use something pretty thin, because when you're
hitting the strings hard, or doing a windmill, you'd want the pick to have
a fair bit of flex so that it will flap across the strings instead of
getting stuck on the first one resulting in scraped knuckles & pinkies
(not that I'd know), especially with heavy strings which would be under
higher tension.  I personally found windmills easier to do with a thin,
big (those Fender triangle jobs) pick, and practice to know where to bring
it down so you hit the strings but save the skin on your hand.  For 
anything other than chords though, thin picks are about useless, so if he 
did use a thinner pick, I would guess it would be medium at the thinnest.
