Re: Pure Rock Theatre info request

I just picked up that Pure Rock Theatre last week and wasn't that excited
about it. The recordings are all quite good but I hate playing name that
venue with all the different sources. I was actually pretty disappointed
with the sloppy edits and different quality on different cuts and could have
put my $25 elsewhere. It would be rather time consuming to look through all
the shows to match them up to the songs on the CD but what about these likely
sources: Woodstock 8-17-69, Isle of Wight 8-31-69 & 8-29-70, Amsterdam
9-29-69, London 12-16-69, Paris 1-18-70, Leeds 2-14-70, Hull 2-15-70 and
Tanglewood 7-7-70.

We know that professional, or at least soundboard, recordings of these shows
exist and some of them have been booted for years or even legitimately
released in some form. The way that the CD was put together would make it a
real pain to decipher for sure but these would be reasonable guesses for
source tapes for a bootlegger.

The Leeds Acetates tape that has been floating around doesn't include any
songs from Tommy and mostly copies Live at Leeds in content except that it
includes 2, 3, or 4 versions of some songs taken from different shows. These
are the tapes that PT claims he burned in a bonfire because he didn't want to
go through them all. The Rock Theatre tracks could come from this batch as
well, only these songs in particular were not included on that tape. The
tape has the same type of editing techniques as the CD with songs cutting in
and out suddenly leaving very few complete songs. If these are the same
tapes used on the CD, than that would explain why there are so many songs
missing from the Tommy set.
