RE: WHO BOOTS

To Steve Marshall, Laura Plummer et.al.:

Regarding yesterday's messages asking about those WHO bootleg LPs:

1) "Long Live Rock" - I've had this boot since 1981, and I can safely tell you
that the source of the show is Frejus, France, May 1979. As older WHO fans may
recall, when the group announced their return to the stage after Kenney Jones
was recruited, they played two shows in Frejus to coincide with the Cannes
Film Festival of 1979. Both 'The Kids are Alright" and "Quadrophenia" movies
were premiering at Cannes, and the WHO were obviously taking advantage of the
opportunity. The shows took place in mid-May, and I believe "Long Live Rock"
is from the first night. If you listen to the end of "Who Are You", Roger says
"We'll get it right tomorrow" after losing his place at the end of the song.
It's actually funny: he sings "Where Are You", as if he's asking the rest of
the band where they are in the song!!!! The cover shot is from the band's 1980
U.S. tour (see Pete's broken hand and shaved face).

2) The WHO (TIME cover) - This boot is from Madison Square Garden, NYC,
September 16, 1979. It was Kenney's birthday indeed, and besides the vinyl
boot, I own a boot tape of the show, which I got from a friend who was at
the show and taped it herself. The boot vinyl came out in 1980, but the show
is from 1979.

I hope that I've helped to clarify things. Thanks!!!!!
