Hey, don't get me wrong. I love Pete Townshend's music; always have,
always will. But some of his songs, specifically on his "Empty Glass"
album, got me wondering...

Consider the song, "Rough Boys." All that talk about "Rough Boys under
the sheets" and "come a little closer" and "I want to bite and kiss you."
Just what is Pete saying here? This song really rocks is one of my
favorites of his solo songs; I especially like how he ends the song with
those screechy brass/strings sounds building up and up. But what do the
lyrics mean?

And how about the song a few tracks down the groove, "And I Moved." This
is a weird one. Being a piano player, I like the music in the song, but
the words kinda' give me the willies:

        And I moved.
And I saw him standing in the doorway,
        His eyes were silent lies.
        And I moved
And his hands felt like ice exciting
As he laid me back just like an empty dress.

My Dad would slap me if I sang that one for him. So what's the deal with
Pete? Actually, I read that this song was written by Pete for Bette
Midler to sing, but she didn't like it. But if it was my album, I'd
probably at least change "him" to "her" before singing it myself.

Then Pete turns around and writes "Slit Skirts," on his "...Chinese
Eyes" album, and it's a (seemingly?) heterosexual theme. Boy, am I confused.

I'm a live-and-let-live type of guy, and definitely don't want to start
a sexual preference flame war. It just seems that Pete Townshend's
lyrics often contradict themselves, and I just gotta' know the cybertruth!

--Interesting thoughts -- what about 'How Many Friends'? i.e.
I'm feeling so good right now, there's a handsome boy who tells me
		how I changed his past
He buys me a brandy, but could it be, he's really just after my ass?
He likes the clothes I wear, says he likes a man who dresses in season--

--very homoerotic, no? Just an observation. Personally I feel as though
it's none of our business, and Pete shouldn't have to justify his own
sexuality to his fans, but it's something to think about nonetheless
just thought you may enjoy the cross-post.
