Why talk about Pete, etc.
Reply to Jeff (the really big Who fan):
Yes, you are definately right, we all tend to focus on Townshend relative
to the other members of the band. However, each member has had decent
coverage over the past couple of years (since I came to the list).
Discussions regarding Roger's show last summer/fall and just lately, his
acting career has taken the front page, for example. Every now and then
listers have focused on one or another member....but the trend is usually
to fall back to Pete. Now that we are getting sick of discussing Pete's
address and since there will be two "new" releases later this month I am
sure the discussions will shift somewhat. Most people will agree on
this, that Pete is the most prominent member of the band....he even
admits it in public. He wrote most of the songs, had the most experience
in producing recordings, was the one who windmilled and mule-kicked
before amazed fans and photographers......, etc. He is also, IMO,
strangely the most charasmatic of the four (or five or ten or...).
Anyway, sorry if I haven't revealed anything aside from the obvious.
OK, here is a new question to all of you: This week I have been
revisiting Quadrophenia in the car tape deck. And I was remembering that
prior to Pete's solo tour in 1993 he mentioned in an interview that he
had been preparing a set of acoustic Quadrophenia and Psychoderelict for
his tour (we discussed this also on the list). Does anyone know if he
actually performed this acoustic set anywhere or did he ditch it for the
set(s) that most of us saw (pyscho and older stuff, which was great
BTW)?? If so, does a recording exist? I was imagining him playing "The
Dirty Jobs" acoustic which would be a good listen, I think.
