The Who's tours...

While looking at the Who's web site and reading through the concerts
and set lists I wondered:

Doesn't anyone find it strange that the Who never played in Japan?
I know why they stopped playing Australia after '68 (Pete's prank
with the sink full of milk and cornflakes is CLASSIC!), but why not
Japan?  Was it common practice to only play in the US and Europe back
then?  For instance Deep Purple toured Japan a few times in the 70's.
By the amount of Deep Purple imports from Japan it's also easy to
see that they were very popular.  Im sure there was a audience for
the Who.
