The Who Get Orchestrated

That's the headline in the current ICE newsletter (Oct. '94). Given
that castration is technically known as an "orchiectomy" I gotta wonder
what it means to say that a group is getting orchestrated...:-) Anyway,
excerpts:

The RCA Victor label has embarked on a series of "orchestral rock"
albums that curiously combine the worlds of rock and classical music
Each title takes the reprtoire of a well-known rock act and renders it
in a fully orchestrated arrangement, sometimes wih the help of the
rockers themselves. [Mention of Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull
singing on the series' most recent release, _Symphonic Music Of The
Rolling Stones_] The three surviving members of The Who ... are set to
enter the studio in October to help record, and play along with, an
orchestral album of their music. [Mention of Procol Harum and Jimi
Hendrix orchestral albums].

Quoting Steve Vining, VP at RCA, it says that Roger, John, and Pete "are
all deeply involved, and will perform on it," as well as guest vocalists
and guest stars. Jon Astley will produce and Bill Curbishley is
"involved."

No specifics on the selections to be recorded. Says there are
"probably some limited opportunities" with Roger and Pete for live dates
in summer '95, but nothing definite yet, as you might imagine.

There's more about The Who in the article, those are the high points.
