Weren't they playing over 2 1/2 hours at this time?
Might barely fit on two CDs.
I agree that the whole concert should be released, along with between
song talking, tune ups, etc. It's hard to get a feel for the dynamics of
the show when they slap together songs out of sequence. Back to
Generations, there is an "editorial" on the upcoming Leeds CD. The
writer, Tim Joseph, makes some good points against just tacking on some
bonus tracks. It would be strange, though, to hear the extended My
Generation right after Tommy was played.
As I re-read the Astley interview, it's not clear whether Tommy will make
it to the CD. Astley contradicts himself several times. At one point
he says only the Overture, Pinball Wizard and See Me, Feel Me will make
it. Then he says he has enough stuff for two CDs. A Quick One may also
make it. Pete has the final say on all this, of course.
I think you're right that Pete may feel that there's too much Tommy out
there. I hope this isn't true; Tommy on Broadway has nothing to do with
Tommy on stage. Tommy live isn't opera, it's "just" a great set
of songs, much better that the album version. Fans deserve a good quality,
complete Tommy.
