Buzz out of Portsmouth camp is that Elton
Brand is leaving Duke, along with William
Avery. But super frosh Corey Maggette is
staying. Brand's game on next level already
starting to concern NBA execs. "He doesn't
really have a position," said one Eastern
Conference GM. "He could be a solid player.
But I don't know if he'll ever be an
All-Star." . . . With Jim Harrick leaving
Rhode Island, Lamar Odom is ready to go to
the pros. He won't be drafted later than
fifth overall. . . . St. John's Tyrone Grant
participated at Portsmouth. "Pretty good, a
solid rebounder," said one scout, who
