Celtics Miscellanious: New TV Contract; Coach Willie Maye On Antoine; Pierce On Anderson
According to Howard Manly in today's Boston Globe, the Celtics and Channel 68
are in the "final stages" of a deal to have the team broadcast its road games
on that station. Good news I think, because it would seem to insure that Bob
Cousy will be there to offer some balance to Heinsohn's rampant Celtics
boosterism. The deal will be anywhere from one to three years, and it means
the C's are turning down Fox Sports offer of a 10-year contract. Why you ask,
are the Celtics settling for a short-term offer rather than a plethora of
guaranteed wealth over the next decade? Gaston and the boys want to improve
the Celtics performance on the court before locking into a long-term deal.
So maybe the "Big G" is championship driven" after all.

I heard Coach Willie Maye of Fox Sports -- He does the interviews on the
Celtics broadcasts -- on NECN yesterday, and he was quite down on Antoine,
surprisingly. He thought that Walker was out of here, and he said that
discord between the Il Duce and Toine, was the reason Walker left Kentucky
early. He was also highly critical of Antoine's defense, and felt that the
amount of "Wiggles" should be lessened.

I heard Paul Pierce on some TV interview, and he mentioned that Kenny Anderson
had been helpful to him during the summer league games. He also didn't regret
his decision to come out early, even with the lockout. However, if the entire
season is trashed, he naturally would have opted to stay in school.
