July 29, New Yorker and Project X are issuing on DVD (and first time on home video in any format) Peter Watkins' movie PRIVILEGE. Originally released in early 1967, it stars former Manfred Mann lead singer Paul Jones as Steven Shorter, who is turned by a future fascist government of Britain from a pop star into a messiah figure leading to problems with his fans.

Less than a year after the film's release, Paul Jones, now a solo artist, toured Australia and New Zealand with rock group The Who, whose songwriter shortly afterwards started writing a rock opera about a young pinball wizard who becomes a messiah figure leading to problems with his fans.

Hmmmmm....
