I'm listening to the Grand Rapids show that just came in the mail. As it
plays I'm realizing something. The new songs are really making it. They're what
I listen for. I didn't like them as much before as I do now. True to my
Who experience.
It took me all of my youth to get into the Who. I heard it played by my
sisters since my memory started remembering at age three. Although I remember
the Decca 45's in my sisters' collection and the strange album covers, I didn't
know what it really was until the end of the 70's. Donovan's Mellow Yellow,
the Doors' Light my Fire, Arthur Brown's Fire, or The Who's I Can See For
Miles, it was all pretty much part of the same thing until I heard Who Are You
and then saw the commercial for TKAA. My mind clicked right there and stayed
put.
These new songs are Who songs. Wow. Those few guitar chords at the end of
They Made my Dream Come True then going into Mirror Door opening with the
best phrase on the entire album -sounding just like the Who. Chills.
Comparing this recording to that of the Atlanta show, I see no major
difference except for Roger's voice being under the bug . Even so, its amazing to
see what he does with that. Pete was just on fire.
The sound is so powerful and clear and the crowd noise is much louder than
what I heard when I was there. Perhaps it's a case of where you are in
relation to the amps. Dead center is in front of them. This is the first time
I've ever enjoyed a show more at home than in person.
I love the sound. I especially like the colors so clearly recorded. If you
don't have 5.1 sound, work more and get it.
